May Sunday Workshop Series in the Green Room
Introduction to DJing

This 3-week series is designed to satisfy your curiosity about what goes on in the DJ booth. You'll learn some basics about commonly-used DJ equipment, and take part in discussions about styles of country-western dance music. Note that this series is meant to be only a brief introduction to DJing, not a full-fledged course. It will include some hands-on experience at the controls.

We will meet on May 4, 11 and 18 in the Green Room at Sundance Saloon from 5:30pm to 6:30pm. No pre-registration necessary. This is a progressive series, with each week building on material from the previous week. Optional $15 donation for the 3-week series.

Two rooms with dancing on Sunday

With the busy attendance we're seeing at Sundance Saloon every Sunday, we will utilize the Green Room as follows for your dancing pleasure:
  • 7:30pm - 8:15pm = slower two-step and waltz music - great for beginners!
  • 8:15pm - 9:00pm = line dance mini-marathon
  • 9:00pm - 9:45pm = west coast swing music
We'll continue with our regular format in the Main Room.

And remember that Country Karaoke continues upstairs in the Red Room at Sundance Saloon on Sunday nights, 7:15 - 10:00pm.

AIDS Emergency Fund County Fair
Sunday, June 1, 4:00 - 10:00pm

AEF will host its 26th Anniversary Awards Gala with a new theme. "AEF's County Fair" will feature an afternoon and evening of carnival-type games, contests and country-style entertainment and food, including two-stepping and line-dancing in the 40'x40' Country Western Dance Area held in conjunction with The Sundance Association.

Hundreds of San Francisco's fun-seeking citizens will join AEF donors, volunteers and clients as we acknowledge our community's generosity with this fun, new event at the San Francisco County Fair Building, also known as the Hall of Flowers, located in beautiful Golden Gate Park at 1199 9th Avenue (at Lincoln).

Special tickets for Sundancers are now available at Sundance Saloon at a significant discount. Tickets include food, beverage, dancing and games. For more information: www.aef-sf.org/countyfair.

The AEF can also use lots of volunteer help for this event.

Sundance Saloon Volunteers Needed

Volunteering is a great way to contribute, and it's rewarding and fun, and it only takes an occasional hour of your time. We're especially looking for volunteers who can commit to one hour a month, but any amount is helpful.

Remember that Sundance Saloon and The Sundance Association were formed by a group of dedicated folks who wanted to offer the community a way of keeping country-western dancing alive through continued instruction and regular dances. Sundance Saloon belongs to all of us, and it survives only with the contributions of many.

We are also always looking for additional help with the abundance of behind-the-scenes work. If Sundance Saloon is a special part of your life, why not make it even more so by playing an active role in its success? Contact us for more information.

Now you can sign up online! We've added this feature to make it easier. Just click here or on the Volunteer link in the left side navigation bar. If you're an existing volunteer just enter the password. If you're new to volunteering click on the "Are you new to volunteering and want to sign up?" link and follow the easy directions.

2008 Membership Drive

Keep all our Sundance Association projects going full tilt with your tax-deductible donation! Join the over 180 members of the Sundance Association for Country-Western Dancing who have already contributed.

More than ever, we need your support to continue all of our projects, including Sundance Saloon two nights a week. The Sundance Association is a publicly-supported nonprofit organization. Memberships account for 20% of our income. With our operating expenses increasing dramatically due to Sundance Saloon Thursday nights, we need memberships to increase proportionately to balance the budget.

Memberships constitute a formal way of donating, while emphasizing the community base of The Sundance Association. Members receive some tangible benefits, such as regular newsletters and invitations to member meetings to keep you informed about the Association, free passes to Sundance Saloon, and the like. Membership fees are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. But the primary reason to become a member is simply to take pride in the knowledge that you are contributing to the future of country-western dancing in the Bay Area.

For more information about memberships, click here.
