Sundance Saloon Reopening

Sundance In The Park

Our prodecures and policies may change at any time.

UPDATE: April 28, 2022

Covid is proving to be stubbornly tenacious. Although the virus appears to be less dangerous now, especially for vaccinated and boosted folks, we're still concerned about the upward trend of cases due to the BA.2 sub-variants. So we're taking a wait-and-see approach and will continue to require proof of vaccination and masks for now. We're hoping this will be a minor setback, and that the numbers will soon trend back downward. Thank you for your understanding and patience.

We are currently planning for masks to be encouraged but optional for full-weekend registrants during our Sundance Stompede weekend (including at Sundance Saloon on May 26 and 29), with all registrants required to show a negative Covid antigen test. Walk-up attendees will still need to wear a mask, unless they present a negative antigen Covid test.

We have completed the installation of eight additional large MERV-13 air purifiers at Sundance Saloon, adding to the five already there (and we'll have even more at the Stompede!). When you throw in the excellent natural ventilation provided by our open doors and system of fans, we believe this must be the best-ventilated and best-filtrated club in all of San Francisco, approximating an outdoor environment!

Safety Policies and Protocols

Our policies and protocols related to Covid-19 are a constant work in progress. Our aim is to create as safe and comfortable an environment as we can, while acknowledging that it is impossible to eliminate risk completely. The following is subject to change.

Sundance Saloon requires attendees to be fully vaccinated. Fully-vaccinated means 14 days after your qualifying second Covid vaccine dose.

We accept:

  • Preferred: Presentation of your California Digital Covid-19 Vaccine Record QR code, or
  • Your CDC vaccination card with date(s) of vaccination, or
  • A clear and complete image of your vaccination card, or
  • Any government-issued documentation.

You will also need to show us a photo ID. If the name on your vaccination and ID do not match, you should work this out with us in advance by contacting Do NOT send us your ID in advance.

We highly recommend our regular attendees to send us their vaccination documentation in advance. IMPORTANT: Please allow 24 hours for processing. We are not accepting or processing vax doc uploads from May 22 to May 31.

A message to our unvaccinated folks, or those who do not wish to share their status: We understand that our policies will mean that there are some members of our community who will not be able to attend Sundance Saloon at this time. We hope you understand that our policies were developed to try to create as safe and comfortable an environment as possible, while acknowledging that it is impossible to eliminate risk completely. And at this time, proof of vaccination is required by the City and County of San Francisco. We’re doing our best with a difficult situation. We are planning for these restrictions to be temporary, and we will continue to evaluate the situation. We welcome your feedback, and we assure you that you can provide comments to us safely, confidentially, and without judgement.

Masks: Bring a mask! We still require masks when indoors. [Why?] Bandanas, single-layer gaiters, and valved masks are not allowed. N95, KN95, and KF94 masks are highly recommended.

Screening: We ask everyone to self-attest that they have no symptoms or recent exposure to Covid-19.

Ventilation and filtration: We have numerous industrial-sized HEPA-13 air purifiers to add to the natural ventilation achieved through the club's open doors, floor fans, and roof exhaust fans. We estimate the airflow in the main ballroom to be at least 12 air exchanges per hour. CO2 levels, a measure of ventilation, generally remain under 700 inside the club. For your reference, outside air is 400, and under 800 is considered very good. A typical bar is 1200 (poor), and a typical nightclub is 2000 (extreme).

Hand sanitizer. We ask that you use hand sanitizer use upon entry. There is ample hand sanitizer available throughout the club. We also have touchless payment systems in place for entry and actually prefer credit cards over cash.

Contact tracing: We ask everyone to provide contact information solely for the purposes of contact tracing should it be necessary. We have so far had no reports of Covid transmission at Sundance Saloon since our reopening last August.

Outdoor patio: We have activated the area in front of the building which has been remodeled into a comfortable patio area, for socializing and even dancing! You can bring your drink into this area. Masks are not required while outside.

Attendee Advice

Check-in may be slow. Please be patient! Spread out the line and keep your mask on for check-in. Fill out our contact tracing form outside before entering. Have your photo ID ready, and your vaccination documentation (if we don't have this already)I

For faster check-in, upload your vaccination documentation at least one full day before the event. See above for details.

The club has advised us that all bags are subject to inspection. This policy applies to all of the events that the club hosts and helps keep us safe.

Bring layers to wear. With all of the doors open, the club may get cold. Or, you may decide to spend some time in the outside patio area.

Don't forget your mask. Please note that bandanas, single-layer gaiters, and valved masks are not substitutes for a well-fitting mask.

Remember: no outside drinks or beverage containers are permitted in the club, including water.

Pick up a free Sundance Saloon personal hand sanitizer (while they last).

We are accepting comp passes that have an expiration date of 2019 or later.

And of course, if you have any symptoms or recent exposure or positive test, please stay home!
