VIDEO SUBMISSION DEADLINE EXTENDED:

The Jerusalema Dance Challenge
Here's our latest community video project, to celebrate the one-year anniversary of the pandemic. Celebrate? Yes! Sundance Saloon may be closed, but we're still here, and we'd rather make a joyous dance video than regret what we cannot yet have.
South Africa's #JerusalemaDanceChallenge has gone viral, with groups world-wide posting videos of themselves doing some variation of the new line dance Jerusalema, from healthcare workers to nuns and priests, to lift our collective spirits during Covid.
With your help, Sundance is going to create our own video submission for the Jerusalema Dance Challenge! All you need to do is:
- Learn this easy line dance, then
- Submit a video of yourself doing the dance, and/or
- Participate in our live performance at Stern Grove or Pier 27
See below for more details.
Here are some hints for the insecure, or if you are not usually a line dancer:
- Watch our 25-minute archived lesson
- Do the best you can with your video. It doesn't have to be perfect. This is about a community coming together, not about how well we can all dance.
- You can record yourself from the waist or knees up.
- You can ask us to use a section with you facing away from the camera, or any specific section you like.
- You can ignore the steps and just bounce up and down or dance any way you like, as long as it's happy.
Note that there are many versions of this dance out there, so you'll want to be sure that you learn our version! If you'd like to see what other folks have done around the world, here are some popular examples: original (Angola), dance studio (Italy), Redemptorist nuns (Ireland), police (Switzerland).
